Meet Our April Artist: ELLEHELL

Meet Our April Artist: ELLEHELL

I am so excited to introduce our artist this month! I have been following @ellehell pretty much since starting Moon Body Soul. I have loved and connected with her simple yet stunning work, and of course love the black and white aesthetic. It is an honor to have her work on our order packaging this month as well as our pocket journal. Read below to get to know her a little bit better.

Where did you grow up and where do you currently live?

I grew up in a small village in the Austrian Alps, but moved to Germany when I turned 18 and lived in Northern Germany and then Berlin for about 10 years. Since then I’ve pretty much been living everywhere and nowhere. I’ve been traveling around the globe the past years and don’t intend to settle down anytime soon.

I absolutely love your style and embracing of the feminine in your art. Has your art always had this style?

I really fall for black - in any possible way. That’s just what I feel most comfortable with - just black and white. I love to keep it simple and I think that’s where this whole style comes from. Besides that women are my greatest source of inspiration. Their bodies, their minds, their strengths and weaknesses, their fears and wishes - their whole being. With my work I’m trying to reflect the complexity of the female mind and body in the most minimalist way. I used to do a lot of acrylic paintings before that tho.

How long have you been creating art?

For about 13 years now.

Do you like to use any other types of art mediums? If not, are there any you would like to play with?

Yes, I also like to use watercolor and charcoal. Besides that I also used to do horror short films and hope that I’ll be able to do a feature film at some point.

Are you a full time artist? If not, what else do you do for work?

No, I’m currently working as a creative director. Before that I used to work as a copywriter in advertising and also as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator.

What advice do you have for someone wanting to pursue being an artist?

Just do it. You really have to just do whatever you enjoy. You don’t necessarily need to study any of it - learning by doing was always what brought me the best results. And don’t ever get intimidated by bad comments - you won’t be liked by everyone and neither will your art, don’t let it get you down.

If you could go anywhere in the world right now where would you go?

Anywhere in Asia. That’s my absolute favorite continent by far and every country I’ve visited so far was just stunning - the culture, the landscape, the people, the food - I adore all of it.

What gets you out of bed in the morning?

Coffee.

What your favorite act of self care?

A good workout, meditation, listening to music and/or reading a book.
