How To Make Organic Rose Syrup

How To Make Organic Rose Syrup

Rose is absolutely one of my favorite flowers + flavors! The scent alone can open my heart and calm my nerves. It truly is a love potion, known for being an aphrodisiac & said to help balance hormones. Roses are also an excellent source of Vitamin C. Whenever I have the opportunity to order a Rose Latte at a fancy cafe you know I do! But why not treat yourself to Rose flovered anything right at home? The only ingredients you need: organic roses, sugar and water. Here are the step by step details to make your own organic rose syrup to add to all of your favorite beverages + more.

Of course you need Rose Petals - When consuming Roses make sure you are using high quality, organic, food grade roses! Never use roses from a flower shop / grocery store as they probably have pesticides and chemicals. We have some available here.

You will also need sugar, I suggest using organic, unbleached sugar. I luckily have a lot of this on hand as it is what we use for our sugar scrubs :) I am sure we could find a good substitute for this recipe if you are avoiding refined sugar in your diet - if you try maple, honey etc. please let me know!

And for the last ingredient - water. I suggest using spring water (my favorite) or filtered water.

This process is super simple - hence the name simple syrup (not sure if that's why it's called that but I like to think so!) You add all ingredients to a sauce pan or pot, turn your stovetop to low or medium and stir while it simmers. Once all of the sugar has dissolved, take off of the heat and put a lid on top. Let it steep for 15 minutes.

Last step, use a fine mesh strainer to strain the flowers out of the syrup. Be sure to store the syrup in an airtight container and keep in the fridge. It will stay fresh for 2 weeks. You can add it to any beverage you choose & turn it into a love potion- I like to use about 1 tablespoon to every 8oz of beverage. (or more, it's so tasty)

INGREDIENTS

  • ¾ cup spring water
  • ¾ cup organic sugar
  • ¾ cup organic dried rose petals (about half of our bag)

EQUIPMENT

  • Saucepan
  • Airtight Bottle
  • Wooden Spoon
  • Mesh Strainer
  • Stovetop

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Add all ingredients to a saucepan and simmer.
  • Stir continuously to make sure sugar dissolves completely.
  • Remove from heat, cover + let steep for 15 minutes.
  • Use a mesh strainer to separate the rose petals from the syrup.
  • Pour syrup into an airtight container.  Store in the fridge and it will keep for up to 2 weeks.
